Abstract: An efficient one-step method for preparation of mesoionic derivatives of sterically hindered benzodioxolenes containing an annulated 2-aryl-1,3-dithiole fragment was developed. The anionic and cationic parts in these species are predominantly localized on the dioxolene site and in the 1,3-dithiole heterocycle, respectively. The nature of the aryl substituent in the 2-position of the 1,3-dithiole cycle determines the spatial structure of the molecule and the features of intermolecular interactions during the formation of packing in the crystalline phase.
