Abstract: The crystals of Pd(S2COCH~CF3)2 are monoclinic, a = 6.196(1), b = 6.948(2), c = 16.156(6) A, B = 96.01(2) ~ , V = 691.6 ~3, dcal c = 2.19 g/cm 3, Z = 2, space group P2<sub>1</sub>. The structure was determined by the heavy-atom method from 2200 reflections, measured on a diffractometer; refinement without the H atoms with anisotropic thermal corrections for Pd and S as far as R = 0.082. The structure is molecular. The Pd atom is at the center of a coordination square of 4S atoms of two xanthate ligands (average Pd--S 2.331 A), brought ~p to a bipyramid by 2S from neighboring molecules at distances of 3.41 and 3.56 A. In the xanthate groups the average bond lengths are S -- C 1.69, C-O 1.32, O-C 1.47, 1.47, C-C 1.51 and C--F 1.31 A.
