Abstract: A new bromide cluster complex [{Re4Mo2Se8}Br6]4– is prepared by the substitution of cyano groups of the [{Re4Mo2Se8}(CN)6]4– anion. The interaction of an aqueous solution of the cyanide complex with concentrated hydrobromic acid under solvothermal conditions (120 °C, five days) leads to the formation of the [{Re4Mo2Se8}Br6]4– anion, which is isolated as the (Bu4N)3H[{Re4Mo2Se8}Br6] salt. The composition and structure of the target product are confirmed by a combination of physicochemical methods, including high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).
